At the beginning of the 20th century, the aristocratic house of Cayetana opens its doors to a group of women who, in spite of belonging to different social classes, will manage to maintain a close bond that will grow stronger year after year.
These “immortal” Cats take us on a journey through the 20th century, with several key stops at the most relevant political, social and economic moments. During their meetings, held in a relaxed atmosphere and in a tone of comedy, they recall some of the most tragic moments of the last century. Those meetings are a magical place where they have the opportunity to talk and confront everything, a place that keeps them save from the battles fought outside, thanks to their capacity to maintain dialogue and mutual affection.
‘Gatas’ is a feminine reconstruction of the 20th century, which allows us to rediscover and relive part of the challenges faced by women in a period in which they were classified as dependent, dominated and underestimated individuals and which saw them off at the very height of their struggle towards the conquest of equality and liberty.
The unforgettable couple that staged ‘Adam and Eve’s diary’, Miguel Ángel Solá and Blanca Oteyza, have joined hands with director and co-author Manuel González Gil in the Spanish theatre adaptation of this peculiar play.
