After the success achieved with ‘Play Strindberg’, the always-surprising actress Nuria Espert has placed herself once again under the direction of Georges Lavaudant, in order to explore a genre that is completely new to her: vaudeville and burlesque theatre. For this new challenge, they haven chosen a play written by Georges Feydeau, a little-known playwright in our country, but one of the greatest playwrights of French comedy from the beginning of the 20th century.
The purging (On purge bébé – 1910) is an example of Georges Feydeau’s ‘late style’ and one of the playwright’s most absurd and brilliant ‘conjugal farces.’ It tells the story of a manufacturer of chamber pots who hopes to close the deal of the century: supply the army with his products! The manoeuvres he will have to perform in order to close this deal will unleash a torrent of surprises, and all because the youngest member of the family stubbornly refuses to take a laxative his mother wants him to take more than anything in the world.
A delightful ‘Teatro Español’ production that will allow us to admire one of the greatest actresses on the Spanish stage in a completely different category of acting than we are accustomed to seeing her in, accompanied by a superb cast and with the staging of who has been director of the Odéon - théâtre de l’Europe for the past ten years.
