The boarding lounge of an airport. An apparently anodyne man, uniformed; an executive. An educated and socially respected citizen. Nothing hints that this man might not be all he seems. A man surrounded by many others wearing similar disguises. But there is an unexpected delay to the flight, and during this vigil another character, also apparently normal, leaps over the barriers of courtesy and desired appropriateness, and takes us to a different destination. From limbo to hell.

The Arriaga Theatre is closely linked to the city of Bilbao. Although Bilbao’s residents would attend theatrical performances before, the city had a place used solely for dramatic performances only in 1799. In that year, a group of neighbours commissioned the construction of a theatre on Ronda St.
Amélie Nothomb, born in 1967 in Kobe, Japan, a Belgian author writing in French, undoubtedly one of today’s leading writers, penned the novel of the same name, which became the major event of the French rentrée of 2001, selling 150,000 copies in the first week.
Translated by Sergi Pamiés and adapted for stage by Carlos Peris and José Luis Sáiz, who also directs this production, the play offers us the chance to admire two great actors in this incredible adventure, two well-known faces among audiences of the Arriaga, José Pedro Carrión and Jesús Castejón.
